The Miami Heat are back in the NBA Finals, but it should serve as little surprise to anyone. A look at three reasons why.
Ahead of Game One of the 2020 NBA Finals, it’s refreshing to look back at how far this Miami Heat team has come since the start of the season last year. They finished what was anything but a conventional campaign with the league’s 11th-best record at 44-29.
That may not fly off the paper, but remember the expectation that was set for them by many upon Jimmy Butler’s arrival. They’re also rolling out a number of unproven guys that had unconventional starts to their career like Kenrick Nunn, Duncan Robinson, and Derrick Jones Jr.
After they won the Eastern Conference Finals in six games over the Boston Celtics, head coach Erik Spoelstra asked his players to take the night and enjoy the moment, not everyone gets here.
And that’s just what I wanted to emphasize in this article, while also reminding you all that the Miami Heat were never supposed to be here. Yet, all the same, this is a franchise that demands respect and they aren’t even a bit surprised at their successes this season.
Butler and a number of other guys on this Heat team are doing something they’ve never done elsewhere: playing for the NBA’s championship title. Anyone outside of South Beach would have never seen this coming, but it’s clear this has been in the works for what feels like years.
