The Miami Heat need to improve now while maintaining flexibility. Here are five potential trade targets on expiring deals that they should consider.

It’s no secret that the Miami Heat are super interested in signing two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, along with each and every other of the 29 teams in the NBA. Miami has the cap space, infrastructure, and the…you guessed it, the culture to entice the Greek Freak.

But what about 2020? Coming off a trip to the NBA Finals, the Miami Heat shouldn’t simply sit on their hands and wait until next summer to make a splash. There are plenty of good players on expiring deals after next season.

Let’s take a quick look at five players who Pat Riley should trade for to help the Heat win a title this upcoming season. With one or a few of these guys in Miami to join what they already have, they could be well on their way back and to win the whole thing this time.

1. J.J. Redick

With Tyler Herro and Duncan Robinson already in the fold, adding J.J. Redick would complete the shooting white guy holy trinity. Coming off another good season, J.J. would be a great fit with Miami, it would also reunite him with his buddy, Jimmy Butler!

If New Orleans wants to continue to add draft capital to an already overstocked war chest, they could get a decent offer for J.J.

I can’t see the Pelicans competing for a playoff spot in the West, even with a fully healthy Zion. What this means is that New Orleans should try to trade any older assets that they have and roll with the young players.

If they choose to go that route, then Pat Riley should be on line one. We can always use a sniper of J.J.’s ilk. Who couldn’t?
