The Miami Heat need big men and they need to get creative about how they add to their team. Harry Giles is an option that could satisfy both caveats.

The Miami Heat are not in an enviable position. Heck, that goes for them and the rest of the league as well.

With Free Agency and even the NBA season up in the air, it’s fair to ask how much money will there be in free agency and especially for a guy like Harry Giles III? You ask about him specifically because he is surely looking for a nice contract this offseason.

Due to the market though, can you expect Giles to get a nice payday? For his sake, I hope he does.

With everything that he has gone through in his basketball career, from being the number 1 recruit in the nation to then having knee issues in high school/college to lastly, not being a top pick like everyone thought he would be, it would be a nice way to move on to the next chapter for him.

But getting back to the point, sadly I don’t think Giles will get what he is looking for on the market. That leads me to believe that Giles and Miami should have mutual interest.

The Miami Heat need big man help. Harry Giles is a low cost and potentially high reward option.

Giles has shown the ability to put the ball on the floor to create plays for himself and for his teammates. This goes especially at the elbow, where Giles flashes his passing potential.

A big man who can pass fits Miami schemes, mainly due to the potential to be used in the dribble handoffs. Also, he can be used to spell Bam Adebayo some minutes, especially in the regular season. You also look at Miami’s deep playoff run, where Adebayo could use some extra rest.

There is also the inevitable injury bug that seemed to stay away from Miami last season, until it mattered the most. He could be an extreme asset there as well.

He also fits right in with the Miami Heat. Giles can be used in the Bam Adebayo spot on most, if not all of their sets.

I remember Miami had an interest in Giles in the draft a couple of years ago, so you would think there is still some interest there. To me, this is a classic Low-Risk High-Reward situation.

With Giles, who can get his career going with a real organization and get his value up for his sake, he is a young big man who would help Miami’s rotation and size issues this year.

You then see if you would retain him in the following season. Miami should kick the tires on Giles. It could only be mutually beneficial to both sides and it won’t cost a lot to execute.
