The Miami Heat now have a slight issue on their hands, it starts with the fact that they weren’t the ones to land Jrue Holiday.

The Miami Heat were beaten to the punch. The Milwaukee Bucks swooped in and grabbed him like a pelican looking for dinner.

See what we did there? Even if you don’t, you need to understand this.

This isn’t a great thing for the Miami Heat, which will play out further in the long term with time, which is the only thing that can determine the extent of how bad it is. Let’s look immediately at four of the short term implications.

They weren’t the team to land Jrue Holiday

The Miami Heat needed to make a move to improve in some form or fashion. They needed to add one more impact piece or a series of smaller genuinely needle-moving moves to ensure they could go back to the Finals and finish the job.

They were only a piece or so away from accomplishing the goal this past season. Jrue Holiday could have been that piece.

That won’t happen now though and that’s alright, Pat Riley is great at what he does. That is something to think about though.
