Miami Heat: Five Winners from NBA Free Agency So Far
By Sam Allen
The Miami Heat were a free agency winner, even if only because they stayed even without overspending. Let’s look at a few more as well.
As the first few days of free agency have concluded and team accountants ask, “wait how much money did we spend?”, I wanted to take a look at teams who really excelled during this part of the season.
Of course, free agency success doesn’t mean teams will be successful on the basketball court, but it’s nice to give some moral victories out. Today, I’ll be looking at five teams who won free agency.
Let’s get started!
Miami Heat
Oh, you thought I was just going to write an article and not include the best team in the association? You already know how we roll around here.
I mentioned in an earlier post that I was naming my second child Jae. I’m officially rescinding that right.
It honestly hurts for me to see Crowder in a Suns jersey, but good on him for getting more guaranteed years in Phoenix. That was his ultimate goal.
My second child will now officially be named Goran! The Dragon is back to the tune of two years worth about $37 million.
Goran isn’t the only Heat player from last year’s squad that’s coming back though. Dragic will be joined by Meyers Leonard and Udonis Haslem in coming back to Miami.
Pat Riley also brought in a couple of new faces! Avery Bradley signed as the Jae Crowder replacement for way less money.
At two years and $11.6 million, Bradley will provide defensive versatility and a decent three-point shot at a cheaper rate. Maurice Harkless will also join the Heat this season on a one-year deal.\n
At 6’7”, Harkless will be a lengthy defender off the bench for Miami. Let’s keep going!
