The Miami Heat open their 2020-22 preseason on Monday against the Pelicans. I am very curious to see one thing in particular as they start.

The Miami Heat are entering the starting blocks. They are getting ready to tip things off in their first competition of the 2020-21 season, albeit a scrimmage game.

On Monday evening, they will face off against the New Orleans Pelicans. This is the same New Orleans Pelicans team that they will face in their second regular-season game of the year on Christmas Day.

While getting a chance to see the Miami Heat’s newest additions in action is great and with any opportunity to see Zion Williamson suit up being a pleasure to witness, those aren’t the main things I’ll be watching for on Monday. It’s actually quite simple.

The Miami Heat tip things off on Monday evening. What will you be most watching for?

With the Miami Heat going on such a deep run in last year’s NBA Playoffs and all the way to the NBA Finals, I am eager to see how “into it” they are. While again, this is a preseason game, so you don’t expect to see them go all-out as individuals or as a collective, you do want to see what type of energy they have.

You expect there to be a lull at some point, again with the deep run they made last season and with the flux in this season’s schedule, but you hope it’s minimal, doesn’t come until after they’ve established themselves this season, or not at all.

I will be watching especially to see if they look sharp, crisp, focused, and determined or if they look lethargic, effortless, and like they are going through the motions. They don’t have to be completely sharp yet, as players or as a team, as things are just getting started but you do want to see them looking fluid, electric, and engaged.

That’s the thing I’ll be checking for the most on Monday. In less than 24 hours, the Miami Heat play basketball again!

We can’t wait!
