Miami Heat: Early inside look at camp through eyes of Bam Adebayo
The Miami Heat are on the precipice of opening their new season. Here’s an inside look at a few things through Bam Adebayo’s eyes.
The Miami Heat are starting their engines! Like every other team in the Association, the Miami Heat are preparing to embark upon a new season.
With every new season comes new challenges, new hills to climb, and new storylines to overcome or sustain. With the Miami Heat and especially after being only a short time since they last took the court for the NBA Finals, even more so with a defeat I guess, they should be more than eager to get back to it.
With training camp underway and the preseason in motion, it would be nice to get an inside look at things before they tip if off for the first time on Monday against the New Orleans Pelicans, a team that they also see again in the second game of the regular season on Christmas Day. Well, lucky for us, we have a guy.
Per Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel, we have a few quotes from Bam Adebayo on what he’s seeing early on. The first thing of note he mentioned was Bam’s take on the Miami Heat’s latest draft pick.
"The takeaway from Bam Adebayo on Precious Achiuwa is the Heat rookie big man has been playing with relentless aggression on both ends during camp."
If Bam is saying this about a guy, then it must be real. Most of us tend to judge things relative to us or our own experiences and with Bam’s relentless aggression as the barometer, you have to like hearing this from him about the rookie.
The Miami Heat open up their preseason on Monday. Let’s get a little update from training camp.
If what Bam is saying is entirely the truth, he should indeed make for a nice pairing beside the big man. The next thing was about his own aggression this season.
"Bam Adebayo said part of his goals this season is getting to the line more often."
As stated, that has everything to do with Bam’s own aggression. He already does so much from playmaking, off-ball, and intangible perspectives, so increasing his actual scoring and opportunities is the next natural progression.
He should also focus on taking more short jumpers, at the very least. Being more aggressive getting to the line, which means attacking, should also aid in that effort.
The last thing of note that Winderman had from Bam has to do with Jimmy. Basically, Jimmy hasn’t improved from the outside, as of yet, or has Bam improved?
"As for camp shooting drills vs. Jimmy Butler, Adebayo says, “I’m taking his money.”"
What that means is that Bam is winning and Jimmy is losing these contests. It’s that simple.
You’d hope that Jimmy’s outside shooting has found its way back home while you also hope that Bam has progressed as an outside shooter. One would be decent.
Both of them would be great. Neither of them would be devastating, as these are the Miami Heat’s two best players.
That was a decent little update from Bam Adebayo, now we have to see if it’s all true. We’ll get our first shot Monday.
