The Miami Heat were in the hunt for Giannis Antetokounmpo, but the Bucks emptied the safe.
The Miami Heat were one of few teams in the hunt for Giannis Antetokounmpo, based on all we have heard over the last year or so. That hunt came to an abrupt end on Tuesday though as it was announced that Giannis would remain with the Milwaukee Bucks on a five year extension at the supermax rate of $228 million in totality.
With that though, teams must begin to pivot and that includes the Miami Heat. The fallout might be minimal, but it could and will most likely be a bit more than that, chaos in general, and very fun to watch.
Specifically though, for the Miami Heat, things should be just fine. Let’s look at a few of the potential residual impacts of Giannis deciding to stay in Milwaukee.
The Miami Heat’s Timeline Should Have Just Accelerated, At Least A Little
The Miami Heat have been working with this certain timeline for the last season or so now. They were supposedly waiting upon this upcoming crop of free agents, with a main focus on Giannis from all we can assume.
Well and again, that pursuit of potential interest is no more. The Freak is remaining in Milwaukee and the Miami Heat have to pick up the proverbial pieces.
While this doesn’t throw them into any kind of panic or anything, it does dissipate a lot of the parameters or wait and see kind of moments that could have presented themselves moving forward. What I’m saying is that with the hope and potential to land Giannis out there, they may have been timid to certain moves but with him locked up in Milwaukee, they may be more willing or aggressive to deal.
We shall see. Again, they won’t become aggressively silly, but you’d imagine their timeline just sped up.
