The Miami Heat could have multiple candidates for one award, depending on their deployment.

The Miami Heat have to figure out their starting lineup and rotations before Tuesday’s opener. It’s actually a good problem to have.

They haven’t struggled to name one because they have too few options to choose from. They have so many really good options at a few positions that it still needs some tinkering to figure out.

With that in mind though, let’s look at the NBA’s Sixth Man Of The Year award. Depending on how Coach Spo deploys the guys, they could have two candidates for this award.

Goran Dragic & Tyler Herro- 6th Man Of The Year

For starters, Goran Dragic was robbed last season. Montrezl Harrell won the award, but here’s the part that always gets me.

How could he have won the award, when he had another contender for the award on his team. Simply by nature of the laws of mathematics, that makes one of those guys the “seventh man”, correct?

Or perhaps that’s a special kind of math that I don’t know yet.

In any situation, if Goran Dragic can just come close to what he did last season, nevermind match or surpass it, then he should find himself squarely in the throws of contention for that award again.

Now, this next one is a bit tricky. I say that because he could end up traded (though I hope not), in the starting lineup (I’d be interested in seeing it), or as a member of the bench unit (oh my word, what a potent unit it could be).

Tyler Herro is the wildcard heading into the year. It seems as though they are grooming him to be the starting lead guard or they just wanted to put him on full display for their trade partners.

We shall see in the coming days. If he remains a member of the second unit, then we will have a situation like the Clippers did last season and I’ll be arguing against myself.

Yea, I said it! In all actuality though, they wouldn’t give the Heat two candidates, it’s just how they do.

Both of these guys, though, should be candidates for the NBA’s 6th Man Of The Year award.
