Not so obvious candidates to start beside Bam Adebayo: Precious Achiuwa

The Miami Heat drafted forward Precious Achiuwa at 20 and I was immediately elated. Not thinking that he would be around when we were to pick, it hadn’t really dawned on me to think about how he might fit in this culture and with this team.

As I have though over the last couple of weeks, man, it’s potentially special. He isn’t really in the running to start though, or is he?

I can’t answer that question for sure, but what I can say, is that he might be the starter on at least half the teams in the league. Albeit in a preseason game, he managed to accrue a double-double of 13 points and 15 rebounds in just 23 minutes in the Miami Heat’s final preseason game against Toronto.

He did so with variety as well. He, of course, showed the hustle and grit that got him drafted by Miami, but he also showed the skills that had him ranked as high as a top ten pick throughout the process.

What really intrigues me the most is that he and Bam Adebayo are bookends on offense. What I mean by that is that they can literally interchange, exchange, reverse, or whatever.

If they are on the floor together, it won’t matter who’s where, because they both can do a lot of it all. If Precious is in the game alone, just run him through the same actions as Bam Adebayo would.

That goes from the high post to the roll and lob. Precious Achiuwa can get it done and will be special to watch, heck, perhaps even in the starting unit.
