Miami Heat: Is the ultimate fifth and final starter on the roster?
The Miami Heat have gotten off to a shaky start, which leads to questions being asked.
The Miami Heat have gotten off to a less than ideal start this season. Although you shouldn’t hit the panic button just yet on them, there are reasons to at least ask a few questions.
While the turnovers have been a thing to start each of the last few seasons, meaning that I think they will correct that at that some point, they’ve also tinkered with their rotation to begin each season over the last few. That’s expected though with the amount of turnover in making the roster over.
In any situation and a product of all of that, another question has potentially emerged for this season. With Jae Crowder moving on to greener pastures, financially, that left the Miami Heat with a hole at his spot in the starting lineup.
They replaced Kendrick Nunn in the starting lineup with last year’s wunderkind, Tyler Herro, but Jae’s four-spot still doesn’t have a proper replacement. They tried to go back to the Meyers Leonard starting situation from earlier last season, but that didn’t work in the game that they tried it.
The Miami Heat haven’t fully locked in yet this season. That starts with the volatility in their starting five situation.
They’ve tried a few different situations but none of them have been stellar. That has led us here.
Is the guy that will ultimately be their fifth starter even on their roster right now? As things shake out this year, hopefully with them making another title run, is the guy that will complete the five-man lineup as Jae did last season elsewhere right now?
I don’t know wholeheartedly either way. I can say that it is truly a toss-up though, of the purest of 50/50 varieties.
They could try something that they have tried already and it works. It’s a smart bunch around there when you think about Spo, the rest of the coaches, and guys like Pat Riley, so if they think it’s worth a look or two, then it is.
They could also go to a guy or two that they haven’t tried there yet. This is speaking towards Precious Achiuwa or dare I say, KZ Okpala, being the starter.
Though a ways away for Okpala, as he can’t even seem to get rotational minutes at the moment, Achiuwa could get his shot soon. But what if none of that works?
That’s where the other 50 percent comes in. Just as much as any of the previous thoughts being the answer, that guy that is to ultimately be the guy there could be on another roster right now.
I would keep my eyes peeled on the reports and my ears open. If things continue as they are, Pat Riley will shake things up.
That, you can be certain of. So, maybe he is and maybe he isn’t, but we will know soon enough.
