The Miami Heat are the latest NBA team to be impacted by coronavirus issues.
The Miami Heat are experiencing their first bout with coronavirus related issues this season. With the rest of the league having already been impacted by it as well, it’s almost as if there was only a matter of time before it reared its ugly head for Miami.
With one game already postponed on Sunday, a contest that was scheduled to be played against the Boston Celtics, the Miami Heat are scheduled to face the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday. They are then scheduled to play that same 76ers team again on Thursday night as well.
They won’t be whole though. Going into Tuesday’s game, we already know that they will be down quite a few players due to contact tracing.
With those guys out, most notably the two starters in Bam Adebayo and Jimmy Butler along with the sixth man in Goran Dragic, the Miami Heat will be without a ton of their firepower. Making matters a bit more sad, Chiang is also reporting this.
"In addition, Meyers Leonard (shoulder strain) questionable for tomorrow’s game. Kelly Olynyk (groin contusion) and Gabe Vincent (right knee soreness) probable. Heat needs two of these three injured players to reach NBA-minimum of 8 available players vs. 76ers."
While we are sure that the guys mentioned in the tweet above won’t play, we still don’t know about the other guys that are out for typical basketball related injuries. The uncertainty of it all is almost as much of a burden as the guys who we know won’t be playing.
The Miami Heat are shorthanded at the moment due to contact tracing. Will they have enough guys to even play right now?
With that all in mind though, the attention turns to the guys that we know will be there. The two names that come to mind quicker than any others are Tyler Herro and Precious Achiuwa.
While Herro already getting a ton of shots and reign over the basketball, he can expect to get a ton more until the Miami Heat can get their guys back. Achiuwa isn’t so used to getting big minutes in the NBA yet, but it’s his time to shine.
Without the full roster available, Achiuwa will probably play all the minutes he can handle as well. It should be a good test for him, as he should see a ton of Joel Embiid in the game.
There’s also this and as noted by Anthony Chiang, the Miami Heat need at least two of the non-virus related injured players to actually suit up because if they don’t, then the Miami Heat don’t have the required amount of players to play the game. We will keep an eye on it all.
It’s a tough call. We always want to see Miami Heat basketball, but do we want to see it with the limited roster available?
In a short season, every game counts just that much more. However, the 76ers are down a bit of their firepower as well.
So, there is that. Again, we shall see but if they do indeed play the games, we’ll get a ton of Tyler Herro and Precious Achiuwa.
