From a quantitative perspective, he currently ranks 14th in the league in total rebounds per game, at 9.71 per game. He ranks 36th in the league in scoring at 20.06 points per contest.
He even ranks in the top 30 in the league in assists, coming in at 28 with 5.56 per game, a number good enough for the second ranked center behind Nikola Jokic and the fifth best big man in the league. That means he only ranks behind Jokic, Daymond Green, Julius Randle, and Domantas Sabonis.
He is also in a tie with four other players for 14th in the league when it comes to double-doubles. That would be along with LeBron James, Trae Young, Ben Simmons, and Christian Wood.
Here’s where things start to look tricky for our guy though. When it comes to metrics that tally overall effectiveness or a player’s impact on winning though, Bam isn’t doing so well.
In example, in ESPN’s Real Plus/Minus Rankings, Bam ranks 95th in real plus/minus and 66th in real plus/minus wins. That’s good enough for 10th among centers in RPM and sixth in RPM Wins.
Mind you, this is just centers, not all big men when you include power forwards.
That’s the case for and against Bam quantitatively. He has the individual numbers and ranks, but they just don’t seem to equate to winning for his team.
With all that said, it wouldn’t be wrong to see it go either way. He could rightfully be an All-Star and rightfully not.
