The Miami Heat haven’t really had a consistent starting lineup this season. They have had a few lineups start more than others, but none have emerged as the out and out leader in the clubhouse as the best.
While a ton of the volatility in the starting lineup has had to do with the general volatility created by the coronavirus pandemic along with health and safety protocols, some of it seems to be outside of that realm. Well, perhaps, as you could look at each move as a butterfly effect of another move that was forced due to the pandemic.
In any event, let’s imagine that they are exclusive for a minute. It is there where I find myself needing to ask a question.
Is Coach Spo too volatile with the Miami Heat’s starting lineups?
The Miami Heat haven’t had a consistent starting lineup all year long, is that an issue?
The short answer, for me, is no. I believe that he is tinkering to see what he has.
In a lot of situations, it’s a direct compensation for an absence due to health and safety protocols, but in others, he’s simply coaching. Take the final lineup in Saturday’s Utah game, for example.
Though that lineup was still a competitive one, I don’t think it was ever about realistically trying to come back and win that game. I think he wanted to see how that group of guys played together, as that might would be something or a lineup he goes to moving forward in the season.
He might have been on to something as well, as by the time both teams pulled their starters in the fourth, that unit was beating a still Donovan Mitchell-led Jazz team, 34-31.
So, again, I don’t think that he’s been too volatile. I think he’s coaching and trying to figure some things out.
Could he, perhaps, be a little more consistent? Maybe.
However, if he weren’t trying to win, we would be all over that too. Whatever it looks like and as long as he’s trying to figure out stuff to win, which we can 100 percent always be certain he is, then it’s really fine with me.
