Miami Heat Cons in a potential Nikola Vucevic deal
Cost Of Landing Him
As previously mentioned, the guy is an All-Star. What that means is this.
The cost won’t be cheap. In fact, it might even be quite expensive.
It might be so expensive that it makes you think about whether they even want to move him or not. While the answer to that question might be yes, that’s a different story in itself, for the moment.
Moving back to the depth cost though.
As indicated in this report from NBA writer, Keith Smith, it “would take a monster package” to land the big man from Orlando. That doesn’t mean that it can’t be done.
What it does mean is that the team doing it would have to really “wow” Orlando. That package could become a bit costly for any team that’s trying to land him and that includes the Heat.
Mid-Season Transitions Are Typically The Hardest
There is also that little thing called chemistry. While he won’t forget how to play the game of basketball, he hasn’t ever played with this group of guys that the Heat currently have.
It would inevitably take him a little bit of time to get adjusted, at least, and whether that’s a half, a game, or several games, there will be an adjustment period. When a player lands on a new team in the middle of the year, that transition is typically the hardest.
That’s something to consider.
What If It Doesn’t Work After All It Took To Get Done?
While a player of Vucevic’s quality, character, background, and type rarely ever fail, because he excels in areas that are considered the fundamentals of the game, there is that chance that it just doesn’t fit. Again, he is a rebounder, a close-in scorer, rim/paint defender, and a 40 percent shooter from three.
What he does would translate to a team on Mars. Again though, say it doesn’t.
With the mechanisms that the Miami Heat would have to trigger and with the resources they would have to deal back, it would be a costly move to have that all be for nothing. That’s always a chance you take though when talking deals of this nature and the final Con to a potential deal with Orlando.
The Miami Heat should make the deal 10 of 10 times if given the opportunity, for the record. However, these are thing things they should consider while in the midst.
Still though, for what it’s worth, this is the type of deal that helps you make a run all the way back to the NBA Finals. Further than that, it’s the kind of deal that allows you to potentially even win it this time.
