The Miami Heat made a move on Thursday. Right at the NBA Trade Deadline it seemed, they came away with a guy that they have been linked to for some time now.

With the Houston Rockets in tow, the pair were able to strike a deal that would send Victor Oladipo to the Miami Heat for Avery Bradley, Kelly Olynyk and a 2022 pick swap. Basically, if the Rockets have a lower pick than Miami does, somehow, then they hold the rights to swap that pick.

That leads right into the first reason why this was a brilliant deal for Pat Riley and the Miami Heat. It should be simple based on the above details.

They Didn’t Give Up A Ton

As long as the Miami Heat didn’t give up any real assets and they didn’t, then this would always be a home run of a deal if they could get it done. With a high likelihood of Oladipo choosing Miami in the offseason, it didn’t make sense to give up players that could have been playing with him to get him, when again, there was a high likelihood it was an exercise in redundancy.

Alls well that ends well though and this one did that. That’s the first reason this was a brilliant deal for the Miami Heat.
