Miami Heat get another closer, Minnesota Timberwolves free up future cap space

After another disappointing season, the Minnesota Timberwolves could look to reset a bit. This deal would open up their cap flexibility and give them another young piece to work with.

The Miami Heat would be trading for a go-to guy down the stretch. When D’Angelo Russell was on the Brooklyn Nets, he was one of the most clutch players in the NBA.

This brings a much-needed infusion of scoring to South Beach. Russell can do his thing while Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo handle things on defense.

He averaged 19 points and 5.8 assists last year in 42 games for the Timberwolves. He shot 431% from the field and 38.7% from deep.

Russell is only 25-years-old and would be able to grow alongside Adebayo. His scoring paired with Adebayo’s defense would compliment each other perfectly.

Juan Hernangome is more of a filler piece, but would provide some solid rotational minutes. His ability to stretch the floor could be valuable at the power forward position.

The Timberwolves would have to be committed to restructuring the roster for this move to go through. There have been rumors that both Karl-Anthony Towns and Russell could be on the move soon.

The trade would pair Tyler Herro with Anthony Edwards and Towns. It would also free up a ton of cap space for them after next season, allowing them to be buyers in free agency.

The Miami Heat would get their closer, while the Timberwolves free up some cap space in the future. Both teams would benefit from this trade.
