This deal sees the Miami Heat add a backup point guard, as well as a backup center. Meanwhile, the Pistons invest in their youth and shed some salary.
Andre Iguodala, KZ Okpala, 2nd, for Cory Joseph, Mason Plumlee
While these names aren’t the most flashy, each would greatly improve Miami’s bench unit. Cory Joseph and Mason Plumlee would both make a big-time impact.
Plumlee is the real star of this deal. He had the best year of his career last season, averaging 10.4 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 3.6 assists.
This type of production would be perfect behind Bam Adebayo in the rotation. His playmaking at the center position is a huge draw.
As for Joseph, he would simply play the role of a quality backup point guard. It would give the Miami Heat the option to let one of Dragic or Nunn walk in free agency.
Joseph averaged 8.2 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 3.4 assists last year between his time with the Kings and Pistons. He’s nearly 30-years-old and could be re-signed after next year on a relatively cheap deal.
The Pistons could be interested in this deal as it would allow them to fully invest in their young core. They won the first overall pick this year and should look to develop their young players.
Isaiah Stewart played super well last year, so trading Plumlee would make room for him to start for Detroit. In addition, trading Joseph would open up more minutes for the potential backcourt of Cade Cunningham and Killian Hayes.
