The Miami Heat have a very delicate situation on their hands. It’s nothing new though, as they are used to dealing with those types of scenarios on a very regular basis.
However, when the topic of Victor Oladipo and getting him back on the roster is the one at hand, it requires a special kind of handling. While that has yet to reveal itself, something that may influence or dictate what that is, just happened.
On Tuesday, the announcement was made that Oladipo had changed representation. While his last reported representation was Aaron Turner of Versus Management, his new agency is Excel Sports.
While there are tons of question to ask, on the surface, such as does or how this impacts his upcoming free agency, that isn’t necessarily the thing that’s most interesting about this move for Dipo… or the Miami Heat, for that matter.
The Miami Heat have Victor Oladipo business to attend to and that may facilitate other business. That’s what his latest move might mean.
When looking at Excel’s list of clients, thy include many names, but specifically Kevin Love and Blake Griffin.
Though neither of those guys are guys that are surely on the Heat’s radar or sure to be interested in coming to play for the Miami Heat, it’s all worth a mention. What do they have to do with each other though?
Well, when there is a situation in professional sports where an agent has good business, dealings, or fortunes with a team or executive, they are typically more willing to work things out with said person. There is also a certain nudging of their clients in the directions of those particular situations, if all things are close enough to being equal.
With that, Oladipo’s new relationship will have to be something that the Miami Heat find themselves interacting with, as they have to try and bring him back on a prove it deal. That, too though, is neither here nor there.
The point of it all is this. If the Miami Heat do find themselves interested in either Blake Griffin or Kevin Love, they may have a chance to get a leg up there.
The smoother the negotiations go on Oladipo, the smoother they stand the chance of being everywhere else. It’s really that simple.
