Former Jimmy Butler teammate for the Miami Heat to target: JJ Redick

JJ Redick may be nearing the end of his career, but he can still produce if given the chance. He went through a rough year this past season but would be able to make a real impact in a Heat uniform.

He and Jimmy Butler played together on the 76ers. Butler has even been on Redick’s podcast since then, so the two are obviously still friendly.

Last year he ended up being traded at the deadline from the Pelicans to the Mavericks. This move came after Redick was supposedly promised that he would be traded somewhere in the northeast so he could be closer to his family.

He requested a trade from the Pelicans at the start of the year and they said they would work something out. Obviously, it ended up not working out, so Redick will likely be looking for a new opportunity this offseason.

While Miami isn’t in the northeast, Butler has a charisma to him that could easily be used to recruit Redick. His shooting would be amazing in the Miami Heat’s rotation.

He’s a career 41.5% three-point shooter and before last year had averaged at least 15 points per game for seven seasons in a row. This type of efficient scoring is exactly what the Heat need.

Having one elite shooter on the roster (Duncan Robinson) is nice. Having two would help the Miami Heat become a truly dangerous three-point shooting team, something they very clearly have not been in years past.
