After a first-round playoff exit against the eventual 2021 NBA champion Milwaukee Bucks, the Miami Heat, and most of their supporting fans, are heading into the offseason with the expectation of significant roster changes. Internally, the Heat will have to address the long-term futures of some of their core player. As of now, it is very unclear what lineup they’ll have on the floor come October.
However, a strong assurance is that regardless of how the roster will shape itself, this Heat team will remain under the veteran leadership and winning proposition of Jimmy Butler, who will be 32 years of age in September.
Among seven Heat players who are currently under contract for the 2021-22 season, Butler is set to make over $36 million next year and has a player option after the 2022-23 season.
Since he was acquired via sign-and-trade from the Philadelphia 76ers in July of 2019, Butler has reached the absolute pinnacle of his career. It was quite evident after having multiple standout performances in the 2020 NBA Finals that Butler has elevated Miami into a winning franchise while also reaching several new heights as an offensive threat.
