As the NBA Draft approaches, most fan bases are taking a look at various prospects to see who their favorite team will pick. Unfortunately, the Miami Heat don’t have any picks.
While they may not have any picks in this year’s draft, it’s also important to look at past drafts. How did they do when making their pick?
Some of Miami’s best young players were not their own selections. Players such as Duncan Robinson and Kendrick Nunn were both picked up as undrafted free agents.
This doesn’t necessarily mean the Heat are bad at drafting, rather that they are great at finding underappreciated talent. However, there may have been some picks that they could have done better on.
Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo were great selections, but could they have done better? Even looking past that, players such as KZ Okpala and Precious Achiuwa haven’t panned out yet in their short NBA careers.
Hindsight is always 20/20, but that’s the beauty of it. The best way to learn from one’s mistakes is to look back and analyze things.
If the Miami Heat made some different selections in the NBA Draft, could they be in a better position than they are now? A Finals berth is great, but could they have taken it one step further?
So, starting with their selection in last year’s NBA Draft, who are three players the Miami Heat could have taken instead of their selection, Precious Achiuwa?
Achiuwa was selected 20th overall, and there were some solid players taken after him? Did the Miami Heat make the right decision?
