Miami Heat trades to get a backup center: Dwight Powell

Dwight Powell has been primarily a backup center in Dallas for nearly his entire career. A change of scenery could be in order for the big man.

Last season, Powell averaged 5.9 points and four rebounds while shooting 61.9% from deep. He can’t space the floor, but in terms of a veteran guy to run the five off the bench, he would be a great fit.

He is on the books for two more seasons, earning around $11 million each year. However, the Miami Heat would be giving up more salary than they get in this trade.

A straight-up swap of Goran Dragic for Powell works financially. However, considering where both are at in their careers, Dallas could throw in a second-round pick to land Dragic.

This deal would also pair two Slovenian national team players together. Though Dragic retired from international play, Luka Doncic is now dominating on the international stage.

The Mavericks are looking to put the best team possible around Doncic. Adding a veteran point guard such as Dragic would certainly help with that goal.

Plus, they already have Willie Cauley-Stein and Maxi Kleber under contract. Powell could be gettable this offseason, and it wouldn’t be a terrible trade for the Miami Heat if they could pull it off.
