The Miami Heat made a huge splash on the first night of free agency. They brought in some key pieces to help them compete for a championship in the upcoming season.
They began the night by adding Kyle Lowry on a three-year deal. Miami followed up that move by signing PJ Tucker to a two-year contract as well.
Both are projected to be in the starting lineup based on everyone else on the roster, and they also signed Markieff Morris to come off the bench. On top of that, the Heat also re-signed Duncan Robinson, Dewayne Dedmon, Max Strus, and Gabe Vincent.
This brings their total roster to eleven players so far. In addition to the six players previously named, Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, Tyler Herro, and KZ Okpala round out the rest of the roster.
This leaves five roster spots open. Who are some of the top options left in free agency that can fill out the team for cheap?
Top options left for the Miami Heat in free agency: Denzel Valentine
Denzel Valentine played four years in Chicago and is now a free agent. Though his time with the Bulls didn’t go according to plan, he could still turn into a productive NBA player.
He’s a 6-4 wing that played four years at Michigan State. In his final year with the Spartans, Valentine shot 44.4% from three-point range on 7.5 attempts per game.
Those numbers haven’t translated to the pros just yet, but the potential is there. Under the right system, Valentine could turn himself into a solid three-point scoring option.
He wouldn’t have to take on a huge role in Miami, and since he’ll likely only cost a minimum contract, it could be worth it. At only 27 years old, he still has the potential to work out in the right setting.
