The Miami Heat made a few great signings on the first night of free agency. The big-name signing was Kyle Lowry, but they also landed forward PJ Tucker.
PJ Tucker is coming off of a Finals run with the Bucks that saw Milwaukee win their first championship in 50 years. He played a huge role on that team on the defensive side of the floor.
He averaged 3.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.2 assists. Tucker shot 37.3% from the field and 33.6% from three-point range.
The forward should be able to have a big-time impact in Miami. What does signing Tucker mean for the Miami Heat next year?
What the PJ Tucker signing means for the Miami Heat: A legitimate starting power forward
For the past couple of seasons, it seems as though the Miami Heat were struggling to iron out the starting power forward spot. Well, they don’t have to worry about that anymore.
Tucker can step in and start at the four immediately. His gritty defense and three-point shooting fit perfectly next to Bam Adebayo.
Trevor Ariza did a fine job last year, but Tucker’s brand of basketball fits into HEAT Culture better than almost anyone in the NBA. He showed what he can do in the playoffs last year, and he should be able to replicate that in Miami.
Though he is already 36 years old, Tucker played nearly 30 minutes per game in the playoffs last year. The Miami Heat finally have a starting power forward they can rely on.
