What the PJ Tucker signing means for the Miami Heat: Improved three-point shooting

The Miami Heat were not good when it came to shooting threes last season. In fact, they were absolutely awful.

If Duncan Robinson weren’t on the team, they would have been one of the worst three teams in three-point percentage last year. Adding Tucker to the lineup helps with that.

Though he didn’t shoot very efficiently last season, he has shown the ability to in the past. If he can get back to around 36% from deep, that would be huge for the Heat.

He also spaces the floor super well for them on offense. Tucker is known for his corner threes, so having a power forward that can sit in the corner and knock them down will open up so many opportunities for Miami on offense.

Ever since Kelly Olynyk got traded the Heat have lacked a real floor spacer. Bam Adebayo is an amazing center, but he’s at his best when his frontcourt partner can shoot.

The same can be said about Jimmy Butler in a sense. When the best two players on the roster aren’t great three-point shooters, the rest of the team needs to be.

Bringing in Tucker means the Miami Heat will be an even better three-point shooting team than they were last year. That’s a huge win for Pat Riley.
