Why Dedmon and Strus were the perfect signings for the Miami Heat: They add necessary depth to the roster
This idea goes hand-in-hand with the issue of money. Since the Miami Heat spent so much of their budget elsewhere, it was going to be hard to fill out the rest of their roster.
Instead of scrambling, they brought back two players from last year who played well. Better yet, they signed them for cheap.
With the majority of the roster being off the books, the Heat were set to re-tool their roster. Not only does this move help greatly with depth, but it also brings back two players who know the system already.
Dedmon will step into the backup center role and play it well. He already showed the ability to do so last season, so there’s no doubt he can do it again next year.
Bam Adebayo is the future of Miami, and one of the best centers in the league. Now he has a backup so the Heat don’t have to worry when he’s off the floor.
Strus didn’t play a ton last year, but when he did he showed flashes of being a sharpshooter. With the lack of depth at the wing, Miami should be hoping he can take the next step in his career.
Having a wing who already knows how Erik Spoelstra likes to do things is great. He should be able to provide some nice backup minutes for Duncan Robinson.
