It didn’t take long for the Miami Heat to dominate free agency and make substantial changes to their roster. So far, they’ve added camaraderie, more winning experience, and as it always seems, they’ve scouted incredibly well in the undrafted player market.
Miami is projected to have one of the more cohesive lineups in the NBA, at least from a defense perspective. The Heat’s additions of gritty veterans such as Kyle Lowry, PJ Tucker, and Markieff Morris, have prepared them accordingly for another postseason run.
Their success in re-signing key players Duncan Robinson, Victor Oladipo, and Dewayne Dedmon has also put them in a great position in that regard. However, an area that Miami needs to address further is their reserve rotation.
With minimal options in free agency, this might be the opportunity for Miami to get the most from their upcoming second and third-year players, Max Strus and Gabe Vincent.
Both Strus and Vincent were signed for the remainder of the 2020-21 season, and the Heat extended their qualifying offers on July 30th, thus making them restricted free agents.
On the second day of this summer’s free agency period, Miami chose to bring back their former two-way talents on deals worth two-year, $3.5 million each.
If Miami decides not to go above the luxury tax to sign one or two possible veterans, they might have to settle on their two undrafted players for bench production. Luckily for them, both Strus and Vincent have shown throughout the past year that they’re more than qualified for the task.
