Grading the offseason moves of the Miami Heat: The big-name free agent
Kyle Lowry: A
The Heat needed a true point guard on the roster, there is no getting around that. Kyle Lowry fits that mold exactly. He can distribute the ball and adds a scoring punch at the lead guard position.
Not only that, but he also brings leadership and championship experience to a team that was lacking just that. He is an ace from three, shooting about 40% from deep last season.
Defensively, Lowry adds even more prowess to a team that was already great on that end. He was second in the league in total charges drawn with 20. This adds another defensive element the Heat can take advantage of.
The only thing preventing me from giving Lowry an A+ is his age. With Jimmy Butler entering his mid-thirties, Lowry being 35 does not bode well for the future of this team.
He is entering the twilight years of his career and might only be able to produce for a short time. Other than for the reason of his age, Lowry was a good, and necessary, addition at point guard.
Overall, the Heat have had a great offseason and made necessary additions that have turned them into contenders. The front office has done a great job adding pieces and should be pleased with how the roster is looking.
