The Miami Heat made a ton of moves this offseason, including three big-time free agency signings. They restructured their team and put themselves in place to be legit contenders.
They started off with a bang, signing Kyle Lowry to a three-year, $90 million deal. Miami followed it up by nabbing PJ Tucker and Markieff Morris as well.
While the offseason isn’t over yet, these seem like the three main signings the Heat are going to make. They don’t have much money left and most free agents are now off the market.
With all that in mind, how good were these signings for Miami? What grade should the Miami Heat get for each of their free agency signings?
Miami Heat free agency grades: Markieff Morris
Markieff Morris is a great addition to the Miami Heat for a slew of reasons. First and foremost, he will be able to provide quality power forward minutes off the bench.
He’s a scrappy player and one of the tougher players in the NBA. That was clearly the mold Pat Riley was searching for this offseason, as he signed players like Morris, Tucker, and Lowry.
Morris has also shown the ability to be a solid three-point shooter, which the Miami Heat desperately need on their team. He is a 34.1% shooter from deep for his career thus far.
The best part is that Morris didn’t cost the Miami Heat a lot of money to sign. He signed on for the veterans minimum – a one-year, $2.6 million contract.
Taking all this into consideration, the Miami Heat hit a home run with this signing. For what he’s going to be asked to do, Morris is the perfect fit.
