Potential two-way targets for the Miami Heat: Yves Pons

Yves Pons is a French basketball player who spent four years at Tennessee before entering the 2021 NBA Draft. He went undrafted, but quickly signed a Summer League deal with the Grizzlies.

He has played well so far in the Salt Lake City Summer League games, specifically on the defensive end. He already made headlines with a crazy block in one of their games.

The 22-year-old is an athletic freak at 6-6 and just around 215 lbs. He’s a monster on the defensive side of the floor and fits the mold of what Miami should be looking for.

Pons plays with an incredible motor and always leaves it all out on the floor. Unfortunately, this hasn’t always translated to the offensive end.

He struggled to shoot efficiently from deep in college, but his jump shot looks super smooth. Despite this, he has shot the ball well so far during the Summer League games.

Through two games, Pons has shot 42.9% from deep on just over two attempts per game. This may not be completely sustainable, but it at least shows a bit of improvement.

Adding some young wing depth would be ideal for the Miami Heat. KZ Okpala could still grow as a player, but he’s the only real youth they have at the wing.

Bringing Pons on board would allow him to learn from Tucker, who would actually be a great NBA comparison for Pons. He’s a defensive-minded forward the Miami Heat should certainly look into.
