The Miami Heat summer league team has had a really good circuit so far. Going 2-0 in the California Classic Summer League and being 2-0 heading into a Friday matchup with the Utah Jazz’s summer league club, they were riding high off a Max Strus clutch moment with his huge game-winning shot for the ages in their previous matchup against Memphis.

Well, it wasn’t to be on Friday, as they were downed, 65-84. The most interesting thing about it all though is how they lost.

In true Miami Heat form, especially over the past couple of seasons, their offense failed them. Also sticking right to the script, their defense kept them in it and alive early on in the contest.

Taking a one point lead into the half, 33-32, they were able to hold the Jazz in check in the first half, as their offense wasn’t doing a ton either. Stop the tape when the story starts to sound familiar.

The Miami Heat weren’t able to stay undefeated in the Las Vegas Summer League on Friday evening. Their offense just wouldn’t stay consistent for them.

In the second half though, the Jazz were able to shake loose, fueled by the inside presence of Udoka Azubuike and the all-around perimeter versatility of Trent Forrest.

For the Miami Heat, it wasn’t as if they didn’t have the looks though, they just couldn’t hit them. Omer Yurtseven finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds, going 6-14 from the floor and 1-2 from deep.

Max Strus finished 4-15 from the floor and 2-6 from deep, with 14 points, seven rebounds, and two dimes of his own. Another potential Pat Riley gem and do-it-all guy, DeJon Jarreau added 12 points, five boards, and four assists as well.

The Miami Heat weren’t able to put the ball in the hole on Friday and it’s as simple as that. There were times in the second half, as the Jazz were pulling away, where the Heat looked as if though they wanted to climb back in it but they couldn’t, as their offense continued to sputter.

They don’t have much time to lick their wounds though, as they are right back at it tomorrow on Saturday against the Atlanta Hawks. They will take the stage at 4:00 PM and on ESPN2, according to the official summer league schedule.

Hopefully they can shake this one off and get back to a winning business then.
