Summer League is wrapping up and the Miami Heat, unfortunately, did not qualify for the championship game. That being said, some players did end up performing super well.
The obvious standouts of the campaign were Marcus Garrett, Max Strus, and Omer Yurtseven. Each of them drew the eyes of Heat fans everywhere, and one even managed to go viral on social media.
Despite all that, there’s one other player in particular who has stood out among the rest. Though he was unable to play in the first game or so, DeJon Jarreau made the most of his time on the court once he got out there.
Jarreau was an undrafted rookie in this year’s draft. The rookie spent one year at UMASS, then transferred to Houston where he red-shirted for one season, and then played his final three years with the Cougars.
During one of the recent Summer League broadcasts, the announcers were talking about Jarreau’s impact during his time with Houston. They said that while Quentin Grimes may have been the best player, Jarreau was the most important player.
He was all over the court for the Cougars. In his senior season, Jarreau averaged 10.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game while shooting 43.2% from the field and 34.4% from deep.
Jarreau is also a great defender, who constantly gives it his all on that end of the court. The defensive backcourt of him and Garrett has turned heads in Summer League thus far.
Kenneth Wilson saw this all coming as soon as the Miami Heat signed Jarreau to their Summer League squad. He was on the hype train far before any other Heat fans were.
The guard’s success in Summer League could end up landing him a gig in the NBA. He has averaged 11.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 6.8 assists in Summer League so far, while shooting 48.5% from the field and 37.5% from deep.
This sort of production would be a great help to the Miami Heat. They have two two-way spots open at the moment, and one just might have Jarreau’s name on it.
