The Miami Heat had a great offseason this summer, highlighted by a slew of signings and re-signing. The best move they made, however, was re-signing Duncan Robinson to a new deal.
Robinson signed a five-year, $90 million contract to stay with the Miami Heat. The contract will average out to around $18 million per year.
The sharpshooting wing has been nothing short of crucial to Miami’s offense for the past few years. Without his shooting, the Heat would have been a bottom-three team in the NBA last year in terms of three-point percentage.
Despite this, some people were still upset at the fact that the Miami Heat paid him so much money. Robinson saw this as an opportunity to have some fun.
He posted a YouTube video where he and Davis Reid, Robinson’s long-time friend, and co-host of The Long Shot Podcast, take to the streets and ask fans what they think of Robinson’s extension.
The responses ended up being hilarious, as some fans had some interesting things to say. While a few fans were super positive, there were also a bunch that spoke out against the contract.
One person stated that Robinson should use the money to “buy a playoff jumper,” as he believes Robinson choked in the playoffs last year. For reference, Robinson still managed to shoot 37.0% from deep in the playoffs last season.
Another person said that Robinson’s contract was an overpay. He seemed shocked when he learned that the sharpshooter was earning that much money.
Reid was the one interviewing people, and he made sure to try to get the best reaction out of the random strangers. He continuously implied that Robinson’s contract was a bad one, poking fun at his defensive abilities along the way.
Obviously, it was all fun and games in the end. Reid even called Robinson a “traffic cone” on the defensive end at one point.
The whole time, Robinson was hiding behind a car in the background listening in to the conversations. Then, when the person told Reid what they would say to Robinson about his contract, he would pop out and surprise them.
The whole skit was super funny and led to a bunch of cool moments where he was able to surprise fans. Some took the prank better than others, though.
Robinson uploaded the video to his YouTube channel, so make sure to go watch it over there. Do you think the Miami Heat overpaid Duncan Robinson?
