The Miami Heat had one of the best offseasons out of any team in the NBA. They added key players to their roster while also retaining most of their core pieces.
Recently, ESPN released their “NBA Offseason Survey.” They had 10 NBA executives and scouts vote on various questions in regard to this offseason, as well as the upcoming season.
One of the questions asked to the group was what the best move of the offseason was. The Miami Heat signing Kyle Lowry was ranked as the best move of the offseason.
Five of the ten voters chose the Lowry signing as the best move of the summer. The other five people split their votes up over four different choices.
Second place went to the Orlando Magic drafting Jalen Suggs (two votes). The other three moves people voted for were the Wizards trading Russell Westbrook, the Bulls’ entire offseason, and Patty Mills going to the Brooklyn Nets.
All of these are great moves, but the Miami Heat still managed to take first place. Lowry will be able to elevate the ceiling of their team for this season.
Miami signed him to a three-year, $85 million contract. It was originally reported that the deal was worth around $30 million, but it ended up being slightly less than that.
Lowry is an All-Star caliber point guard who will now be a part of a big three in Miami. Alongside Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo, he should be able to make them a top team in the Eastern Conference.
Despite this, there are some concerns about the contract. By the end of the deal, Lowry will be a 39-year-old point guard earning nearly $30 million.
However, that clearly wasn’t a problem for Pat Riley. His plan for the Miami Heat is to try to win a championship right now.
They made the necessary moves to do so, and bringing in Lowry was the most important piece of the puzzle. The Miami Heat have a legitimate chance to win a title.
According to various NBA figures, the Miami Heat made the best move of the offseason. Hopefully, Lowry will be able to live up to the hype that everyone is giving the signing.
