Positions on the roster for the Miami Heat to address: Backup center

While this position may not need to be addressed right now, it will have to be throughout the season. Unlike the other positions on this list, however, the need to address this position stems from a good place.

Miami re-signed Dewayne Dedmon this summer and the plan was clearly to make him the backup center. He played that role super well last year.

However, Omer Yurtseven put up some wildly impressive numbers in Summer League. He performed so well that he earned a two-year contract with the Heat.

Now, the Heat have two different guys who could end up thriving at the backup center position. This is a great problem to have, as in the NBA it’s never a bad thing to have talent.

Dedmon is a hard-nosed, energetic player who knows his role. He has even stated that his sole purpose on the team is to give Bam Adebayo rest when he needs it.

He will likely start the season as the backup center, but his job is not safe by any means. If Yurtseven impresses early on, he may take over as the primary backup center.

His offensive game is something that the Miami Heat could really use. He can score inside, knows how to work the post, and most importantly, he can stretch the floor.

Don’t get it twisted, having multiple talented backup centers is great. However, the position of backup center will definitely need to be addressed, especially if Yurtseven plays super well.
