Miami Heat: Defining Jimmy Butler’s Role In The Rotation This Year

Typically, over the last two seasons, if Jimmy didn’t do everything for the Miami Heat… or at least, the majority of it all, they didn’t have a shot. He won’t be forced to do everything for them this season, as they have Kyle Lowry who can and will run the offense, score a ton, take on tough defensive assignments, and hit big shots when they need him to.

What will Jimmy’s role be then? It will go back to that of the traditional best player, of course, applied to his skill set and what he does, so to speak.

He’ll continue to be one of the best defenders, period, in the entire league. He should go back to primarily focusing on the scoring aspect of his own offense though, less focused on playmaking though as indicative by his entire tenure in Miami, being more of a playmaker is just who he is now.

The key thing that brings it all together here and really reflects his role change is the fact that his three-point shooting should start to see an uptick, from a volume and success standpoint. Not only do they need it, but he’ll be back along the wings more in his natural position, which should foster that situation.
