Miami Heat: Best trade ever done with the Dallas Mavericks
By Jack Simone
What trades have the Miami Heat made with the Dallas Mavericks?
The most recent trade the Miami Heat have made with the Dallas Mavericks was back in 2017. They dealt Josh McRoberts and $5.1 million in cash to the Mavs in exchange for AJ Hammons.
Neither player would go on to play significant time with either team. McRoberts played two games with Dallas and Hammons played zero with the Heat, so technically, the Mavs won because of the cash they received.
Tim Hardaway is an NBA legend, but this deal happened at the end of his career. He was in his mid-30s when he was dealt for a 2004 second-round draft pick.
The Heat went on to select Matt Freije, who would never play an NBA game for them. Since Hardaway played less than a season in Dallas, this trade was kind of a wash, too.
Once again, this trade involves a former All-Star. Jamal Mashburn was a great scorer in the NBA, but ironically enough, the worst years of his career, scoring-wise, happened in Miami.
Luckily for Miami, out of all three of the players they traded, only Kurt Thomas would go on to have a somewhat solid career. While Washburn was never a 20-point-scorer in Miami, he still was very impactful for them.
This trade is weird considering the Heat technically didn’t have to give anything up. Dallas sent Miami a 1998 first-round pick to the Heat so they would agree to select Arvid Kramer in the 1988 expansion draft.
While Kramer would never amount to anything, Edwards went on to have a long career with the Heat. He played five seasons in Miami, playing a fairly large role for them.
