The Miami Heat added quite a bit of talent to their roster this offseason. While some of it was there, technically, before last season ended, the guy in question still fits in firmly with the latest crop of Heat Hopefuls, as he landed a new deal with the club this past summer.

That would be the versatile big man that tore up the NBA Summer Circuit, Omer Yurtseven. However and with that deal though, what will Yurtseven’s role look like with the big club this season?

For starters and to get the warts out of the way, the first thing he needs to do is immerse himself in the Miami Heat’s defensive principles, to learn them, specifically but to also personally improve on that side of the ball, generally. That is his only major weakness at the moment.

He isn’t, as much, incapable of playing defense, as he is, just, not as basketball intelligent or aware on that side of the ball as you need him to be yet. However, as a rim protector and shot-blocker, he can be effective if placed in the right spots.

With that though, his major talent is on the other side of the ball. At seven feet tall, Yurtseven can score from all three levels.

The Miami Heat brought back talented big man, Omer Yurtseven, this offseason. What will be the role for the seven-footer this coming season?

Yes, he’s a big man that can get it done at the rim, of course, in the middle areas, and from range. He can also get it done with his back to the hoop or via the face-up.

When it comes to offense, The Big Yurt has a big bag. That’s what will help define his role for Miami this season as well.

He’ll be an x-factor with his opportunities and that can manifest itself in different ways. If there is a matchup he can take advantage of, poor defense or lack of size from the opposing big, then Yurtseven is a guy to call on to highlight that.

Whether that be a direct attack or a ploy to get them to pay enough attention to that to actually execute what you want to execute, it would work either way. There are also those situations where his size and versatility would just cause a flat-out matchup problem.

Though similar to the first notion, there will just be games where the opposing team doesn’t have the bodies, size, or talent to stop what it is he does. Then, lastly, there will be those times where the opposing team’s bench is killing them, leaving an opportunity to make splash with your bench if you can just start to pull away.

That’s a perfect Yurt moment. He can score in bunches with the touches, which could give the team that light of day they are seeking in that situation.

If he can learn the defensive stuff quickly, he’ll see those opportunities early, as his offense might just be too good to not dose your reserve unit with a hint of it. Whenever he does though, this should be his role.

Perhaps minimal, but specific regardless. If there are moments to use him, the Miami Heat and Coach Spoelstra will find them and capitalize.
