Miami Heat: Regrading The Mercurial Victor Oladipo Trade

Making a trade back in March for the once All-NBA and All-Defensive team member, Victor Oladipo, the Miami Heat thought they were solidifying their depth and team, overall, with the move. After all, they didn’t move much to get the deal done.

Not playing much since being signed by the Heat prior to the start of last season, Avery Bradley’s presence wasn’t as much missing as it was not-present. He hadn’t played a ton for the Miami Heat as it was.

The pick swap situation is always an interesting one and especially when talking the Miami Heat. Depending on the depth of the draft or the way that the talent and team-needs play out, that may not matter as much either.

Regardless, if there is anyone or any organization that can do the most with the least in that area, it’s Pat Riley and the Miami Heat. They routinely find guys on the street, so a lower draft pick wouldn’t be terrible if that’s what that means.

There is also this. Riley doesn’t necessarily live for draft picks anyway, as he’s stated it in so many ways, as he’s typically in win-now all the time and young guys, often, hinder more than they help there.

Kelly Olynyk was the piece, if any, that might’ve stung. A key piece for the Heat for much of last season, he also had the deal that was the most movable and expiring at the end of the season, for that matter.

For what it’s worth and with the money he earned this offseason not being considered, he’ll likely be someone they miss in the coming season. Specifically, when you consider that they signed a bunch of guys like him in the offseason that just aren’t as big or skilled as he is.

But that’s a different topic.
