What to watch for during Miami Heat training camp: Omer Yurtseven defensive improvements

The Miami Heat signed Omer Yurtseven to a two-year contract this summer. They originally picked up in the middle of last season after an impressive G-League stint with the Oklahoma City Blue.

Yurtseven played great in Summer League this season for Miami. He was a double-double machine and was particularly impressive during their time in the Sacramento Summer League.

His post presence was unmatched, and it seemed as though there was no one who could guard him. He was absolutely bullying opponents in the paint.

On top of that, his ability to stretch the floor was also very impressive. That’s going to be a crucial skill for the Heat to have at their disposal.

However, the one place where many see Yurtseven struggling this year is on the defensive side of the ball. He’s not nearly as dominant on that end as he is on offense.

As of now, Dewayne Dedmon will likely be the go-to backup center. However, if Yurtseven improves defensively, he could make a real case to steal that job.

Training camp will be Yurtseven’s opportunity to improve as a defender. Watch out for any reports on that during training camp, as it could have major rotational implications.
