The Miami Heat improved to 4-0 on the season last night, taking down the Charlotte Hornets. They took home the 104-103 win on the coattails of some late-game heroics from one of their young players.

Javonte Smart ended up hitting an and-one layup to put the Heat up by one in the closing seconds of the game. It was a truly impressive showcase from Miami’s young players.

Though the starters did play a decent amount of minutes, the Miami Heat youth stole the show in the final quarter. They made huge contributions to a great come-from-behind win.

With all that being said, what are some of the takeaways from the victory? What should Miami Heat fans be thinking after that game?

Takeaways from the Miami Heat preseason game vs. the Hornets: Javonte Smart has the right mentality

As mentioned, Javonte Smart was the hero in this game. He hit the go-ahead and-one layup in the final seconds of the game that ended up earning Miami a win.

Smart didn’t even play five minutes in this game and yet he had the most important shot of the game. His counting stats don’t jump off the page, but anyone who watches him play knows he has great energy.

Ever since he suited up for the Miami Heat in Summer League it was clear that he played with the right mentality. His game-winning shot showed that too – he is truly fearless.

It is very unlikely that he ends up on the final roster, but Smart could be a great player in this league. He has the perfect mentality to be an impactful player.
