The Miami Heat are continuing along their current road trip and continuing to do so with a rather unique situation on their hands. Like every other team in the league right now, it seems, they are dealing with their own rash of absences.

Be they due to NBA protocols or old-fashioned injuries, they are down quite a few guys. With 11 guys on the absent list for Sunday’s contest against the Sacramento Kings, they would go and try to get one with the same hodgepodge of guys as they did in a win over Houston a few nights back.

To get right to the point and as probably known by now, they were unable to get it done. Getting out to a slow start, which led to a back and forth affair, and then ultimately to a close defeat, the Miami Heat never really took control of the game.

They allowed the Kings to hover around all day and at the end, where they had more of their regular guys going than Miami, it allowed them to get the win. However, there is also something else that mightily contributed to their, 113-115, defeat.

The Miami Heat started the first game of a back-to-back set near the Bay Area on Sunday. With a chance to tie in the end, Jimmy Butler blew a big shot.

In the final moments, Jimmy Butler had a chance to tie the game for the Miami Heat. Off of a timeout that was called on a previous side-out of bounds play, Jimmy got the ball in isolation.

He drove to the cup from the right side of the wing or near-side of the court, based on the angle that television presents, only to get two Sacramento Kings defenders discombobulated. This discombobulation resulted in a, pretty much, wide-open look at the rim for Jimmy Butler.

To be frank, it’s one of the easiest looks that an NBA player will ever get in that spot and especially a bowling ball, bulldozer, battering ram of a player like Jimmy Butler. He, simply, blew it.

Trying to use too much touch or finesse, instead of doing what he does in making the right play, he failed to use the glass on the shot. The shot rolled, bounced, or sort of sludged its way to the opposite side as time ran out.

That’s how the Heat’s day would end. All in all, he’s earned all the passes that exist, so you don’t question, trash, or blast that guy.

Not him. Not Jimmy Butler.

However, it did have to be said. He blew the shot that could have given the Heat a chance to win and he probably will never get another one as easy as that one.

Knowing him the way we think we do though, it can only mean good things for the Miami Heat. He’ll be a very frustrated character in Monday’s game against one of the best teams in the league, the Golden State Warriors.
