This past offseason, former Miami Heat guard Goran Dragic was involved in the sign-and-trade that allowed Kyle Lowry to come to Miami. While Dragic was a beloved player in the franchise, the Heat felt that it was time to move on from their veteran guard.

It was a necessary move that has seemed to work out well for the Heat so far, as indicated by their top record in the Eastern Conference. Dragic did not seem upset by Miami’s decision to trade him.

The mutual respect between Dragic and the Heat organization still remains. He will undoubtedly go down as a Heat legend.

Before that can happen though, Dragic has needed to make accommodations for himself to finish out his career. In a case of “the rich getting richer,” the former Miami Heat guard has signed with the Brooklyn Nets.

This was a bit of a surprise. Dragic was a popular player on the buyout market, but the Nets were not one of the teams on the radar in terms of being the frontrunners to sign the veteran guard.

Former Miami Heat guard, Goran Dragic, has signed with Brooklyn. The Heat and Nets are battling for an NBA title, so this makes the rivalry more intriguing.

Nevertheless, it makes the Nets ever deeper.

Dragic has not played in too many games this year, only playing in a total of five games with the Toronto Raptors. However, if he plays anything like how he played in Miami, the Nets will be getting a talented shot-creator to support their new star trio.

Putting aside their record for the moment, the Nets look like one of the best teams in the league right now. When they are fully healthy, with Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant, they will have one of the best offenses in the NBA.

Adding guards Ben Simmons and Goran Dragic to the mix improves their defense and increases scoring opportunities for other players.

The interesting thing about this whole thing is that it is very possible that the Miami Heat will face the Brooklyn Nets in the playoffs. One team will have to go through the other to get to the NBA Finals.

It’s just that simple. After being a huge part of Miami’s success for so many years, Dragic will now be one of their opponents.

This signing is likely only temporary. It is possible that Goran Dragic reunites with the Heat at some point later in his career.
