The Miami Heat are coming off one of their most astonishing defeats in some time. In a Wednesday night showdown with one of their direct competitors for the NBA title and the NBA’s Eastern Conference, the Miami Heat dropped a tough one to the Milwaukee Bucks.

Leading the game for much of the contest, they had gotten out to a double-digit lead with just seven minutes left in the game. That’s when Milwaukee turned it on, but simultaneously as the Miami Heat decided to turn it off—with the “it” for the Miami Heat being their focus.

A poor Jimmy Butler showing, among his poorest, a few costly Tyler Herro turnovers, questionable play-design, inbounding, and refereeing all had a major part in the defeat, but they still should have won. You don’t cry over spilled milk there though and it should be motivation for the future.

Their direct future is a Thursday night matchup with the Brooklyn Nets and one that may see Kevin Durant return, so if there was ever a time to put one behind you, this certainly counts. While that may be their direct future, there are some key inferences to be made about their long-term future.

The Miami Heat dropped a really tough game Wednesday. But even still, history is firmly on their side when you take a long view of the scenario.

After beating Chicago on Monday night, the Miami Heat found themselves at 41-21. Here is an interesting little factoid about previous Miami Heat teams that achieved that same record, per Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press.

Interesting right? Yes, interesting, indeed.

When the Miami Heat get to this record or this amount of wins in a year, they are NBA Finals bound, it seems. Going three of five in said appearances, you have to like their chances.

This team looks like a Miami Heat team that is built to go the distance, make noise, and disrupt along the way. Listen, Wednesday night is the anomaly.

Jimmy Butler comes through more than he doesn’t and even still, the entire TEAM should never give up a massive run like that, especially that late in a contest. Don’t lean on that performance.

Lean on these facts provided by Reynolds. Certainly, they should be closer to the final projection for this team’s fate than any proclamations made based on one poor Jimmy Butler night.
