Miami Heat: 3 March Madness Prospects To Keep An Eye On- Walker Kessler
Maybe I’m higher on Walker Kessler than most but when picking at the end of the first-round, ya gotta go with higher floors over higher ceilings.
Plus, I believe Kessler was a victim of Auburn being an overall great program this year mixed with the fact that he was overshadowed by freshman-phenom and potential top 3 pick in 2022, Jabari Smith.
I know a lot of fans want to see what ‘Yurt’ can do if he’s given more of an opportunity to shine next year as the backup 5, but I believe he’s still too raw and can benefit from another season of development.
Kessler doesn’t have eye-popping stats in most categories, except when it comes to blocking shots. He averaged 4.5 shots blocked per game and even had a triple-double this past season with an astounding 11 blocks!
That said, Kessler doesn’t do any one thing at a super high level aside from blocking shots. He’s your typical jack of all trades, master of none. What he does have is great footwork for a man his size, standing at 7-foot-1.
He defends the pick-and-roll well and has shown the ability to recover and get back to his man.
Despite being very aggressive when looking to block shots, he doesn’t pick up a ton of fouls and also does a good job of using verticality instead of swiping at the ball.
The one knock on Bam is that he gives up size to some opposing Centers, but if the Heat grabbed Kessler, that would no longer be an issue when he’s on the court.
