The Miami Heat would lose Monday night’s game to the Philadelphia 76ers, without Joel Embiid and James Harden playing, so they would certainly have the last laugh.

However and through the disappointment of the defeat, that doesn’t mean that there weren’t some quirky moments in the midst of the contest that Miami Heat fans could chuckle at too.

There are three things of major note here. It’s a cardinal sin in basketball to foul a jump shooter, that’s number one.

Number two on the list is that you take that sin to an even more extreme level when you are talking about a three-point jump shooter. Lastly and only something a psycho would do is this.

Why on earth would anyone ever foul Jimmy Butler on a three-point attempt? He’s been a terrible range shooter since arriving in Miami and furthermore, lives and eats off of easy points from the free-throw line.

The Miami Heat would lose Monday, ultimately giving Philly the last laugh. However, you had to chuckle as Furkan Korkmaz fouled a Jimmy Butler three.

Well, that’s what happened in the first half of Monday night’s game. Furkan Korkmaz of the 76ers was the culprit.

Again, the Philadelphia 76ers would have the last laugh, eventually beating Jimmy Butler’s Miami Heat, 106-113.

It does bring up an interesting point though. Every year, as the Miami Heat inch closer to the postseason, Jimmy Butler starts to ramp up his three-point attempts.

He’s doing it again this year, taking as many as eight in a February meeting with the Charlotte Hornets. While the Miami Heat have other guys to hit those shots, ones they’d much rather take them than Jimmy Butler, he does have to, at least, put the thought in the mind of opposing defenses.

With Jimmy Butler absolutely thriving off of his ability to get downhill into the paint or stop short for the midrange finish, having something else for the defenders to consider is important. That’s, especially, when you think about the NBA postseason, where things condense dramatically.

That goes for some rotations down to the court, itself, in the paint, and the leash that referees give players. The overall thought and point remain the same here though.

To foul Jimmy Butler on a three-point attempt is borderline-maniacal behavior. Perhaps though, that’s just the type of zany energy he needs around him to actually hit a few when the postseason tournament begins.
