Miami Heat: Trying To Make Sense Of Bam Adebayo’s NBA Playoff Drop-Off

There was a thought that, perhaps, delving into the tracking data would lead to finding something. However, when you look at his shot attempts, relative to the regular season and this year’s playoffs, things looked mostly the same.

Most, if not all, shots are either at the rim or mid-range, even with similar attempts from the short middle and long middle. The same stood for how open the looks were that he shot, where everything was basically the same.

You honestly thought that when looking at the tracking data, something would jump out to help explain his playoff drop-off but in fact, his effective field goal percentage actually went up in these playoffs compared to the regular season.

And There’s really only one thing to explain that. He, simply, shot the ball less for his Miami Heat team.

This current playoffs specifically saw his field goal attempts drop from 13 to less than ten. That seems marginal and it is, but in a seven-game series that gets decided by the last play, the margins are very thin.
