Miami Heat: With Basic Sharpening, Omer Yurtseven Is Most Of What They Need

Across that 10-game sample size, The Big Yurt averaged 13.6 points, 13.9 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game. That’s pretty good for a guy that wouldn’t be the focal point of the offense.

If you look at his per 36 minutes stats and again, though you have to account for the fact that a lot of his time is against second-tier competition or worse, he averaged 15.2 points, 15 rebounds, 2.5 assists, about a steal, and a block per game.

Again, those are pretty good numbers for a guy that would get all of his stuff off of other people and their actions.

Yes, Yurtseven has a ton of work to do on the basic principles of defense, which is a good and a bad thing. It’s “good” because he just needs a few of the more foundational things to be a much better defender, but “bad” because you would hope he already has been schooled on those things before now.

Never feat though, the Miami Heat are just the team to teach him what he needs to know. And with that tutelage along with the normal growth and development you expect from a young guy, Yurtseven could be one of the main answers to their size issue in the coming season.
