Miami Heat: Ceiling and floor for Jimmy Butler’s role in 2022-23 season

Chicago Wade is Butler’s floor. It would simply be fewer minutes, less offensive weight, and fewer shots. All that said, I doubt this scenario happens.

The amount of offseason work Butler puts in makes him one of the last candidates to regress outside of injury problems.

Ceiling: Jimmy Butler in the 2021-2022 playoffs

Butler turned into an absolute animal in the previous postseason, churning out 27 points per game, his best scoring performance to date in the postseason.

That was via his 33 percent from three and an astounding (and career-best) 50 percent shooting from the field.

The Marquette product added 2.1 steals per game and posted a 104 defensive rating. His offensive win shares jumped to 2.7 and his value over replacement player score shot up to 2.2.

But he was not just impacting his own play. A look at the on/off court numbers shows dips in offensive and defense ratings, assist percentage, and assist-to-turnover ratio when Butler takes a breather.
